IN ARMENIA THE INDEX OF POVERTY IS 25%

Today took place the presentation of the activities realized by the
"Oxfam" Company. During the presentations were presented the projects
already implemented and the challenges and the goals of the upcoming
years of the company. According to the president of the Oxfam branch
in Yerevan, Margarita Hakobyan, the company is aimed at reducing the
amount of the poverty and vulnerability in the Armenian villages.

She informed that the index of poverty is again growing in Armenia
because of the economic crises. It is reaching 25 %.

"Many communities do not have medical centers; there is a problem
also with the drinkable water… With our new strategy we have also
touched the maternity and children healthcare, for the latter to get
treatment in their hometowns. Each year we make investment of 700
thousand pounds for the poorest, farthest and villages. We work in
165 communities mainly rechargingthe medical centers for the people
to get treatment easily", – M. Hakobyan said.

She noticed that the main works are being conducted in Syunik, Lori,
Tavush, Vayots Zor and Gegharkunik.

First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration of Armenia Vache
Terteryan welcomed cooperation of the company and the Ministry and
assured that in the upcoming years there will be obvious success.

Deputy Minister at Ministry of Health Tatul Hakobyan made a welcoming
speech and after handing a certificate to the Armenian branch of
the Oxfam Company mentioned that when speaking of expectations,
when putting big goals in front of ourselves there should never be
illusions that the people will get rid of the torments.

"So let’s be more distinct in our aims, let’s have ideas which will
be realizable",- T. Hakobyan said and added.

Hakobyan attached importance to the reduction of the health problems
in the villages, as he is sure that if there is a healthy community
there will also be a healthy family.
