Administration Pressing Berman To Kill Armenian Genocide Resolution

The Obama administration is pushing House Foreign Affairs Committee
Chairman Howard Berman to kill a resolution declaring that Ottoman-era
killing of Armenians was genocide. A White House spokesman said that
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Berman that passing the
resolution would jeopardize reconciliation talks between Turkey and
Armenia. Despite the pressure from the administration, Berman today
urged members of the committee to approve the resolution, which would
send it to the full House. The committee approved a similar measure in
2007, but it was not brought to the House floor following heavy
pressure from President Bush.
