Edward Nalbandyan: Turkey demonstrates strange approach to adoption of
Resolution 252 by US House Committee on Foreign Affairs

ArmInfo. Turkey demonstrates a strange approach to adoption of the
Resolution 252 by US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, repeating by
its warnings the situation of 2001 when France recognized the
Genocide, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan said in an
interview with Public TV of Armenia on March 5.

"The current statements and threats by Turkey remind me the statements
made by Turks in 2011 with respect to Paris, as similar statements
were voiced then and the ambassador was recalled as well. However, the
relations between Turkey and France restored some time later, and the
ambassador continued his mission in Paris", he said.

According to Nalbandyan, the publications of the Turkish press in 2001
were saying about Turkey’s great role in terrorism-fight and
strengthening of peace in some regional problems. It was also said
that the Genocide should not be recognized if France did not want to
spoil the relations with Ankara. "It turns out that if the Genocide is
recognized, Turkey will start protecting terrorism or arguer against
peace, and this is a strange approach at least", the minister said.

On January 18, 2001, the French Parliament unanimously adopted a
resolution, according to which France recognized the fact of the
Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey in 1915-1923. On March 4 2010 the
House Committee on Foreign Affairs affirmed House Resolution 252, or
the non- binding Armenian Genocide Resolution, that calls upon the
President to recognize the death of 1.5 million ethnic Armenians as
genocide in his annual remembrance on April 24. The committee split 23
yes votes to 22 no votes. For final adoption, the resolution requires
approval by the House of Representatives. No approval by the Senate or
the President is required. Earlier Turkish Parliament addressed a
letter to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs saying that
affirmation of the Resolution may impede the Armenian- Turkish
normalization.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
