Baku, 6 March: In response to Turan news agency’s query about
the decision of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of
Representatives [of the US Congress to recognize the 1915 war victims
as Armenian genocide], the US embassy representative in Baku Terry
Davidson said the following:

"We certainly do not want the discussions in the US Congress to affect
our relations with Azerbaijan. We are strategic partners and we do
a lot of things together which brings benefit to both nations.

"We are aware of Azerbaijan’s disappointment about the debates in the
Congress. President [Barack] Obama and Secretary [of State Hillary]
Clinton clearly said that the Congress should not become a discussion
forum for events that happened in 1915. As they said, we believe that
the people of Armenia – their society and historians – should look
into the matter.

"The USA supports Armenian-Turkish rapprochement efforts and permanent
dialogue about the 1915 tragic events. Secretary Clinton said that
she hoped that the Congress would not take further action on the
resolution because this would not encourage the normalization of
ties between Turkey and Armenia. Such normalization would lead to
long-term stability and progress in the whole region."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
