On Sunday, April 25, 2010, at 5:00 p.m., the Armenian-Canadian community of
Toronto will commemorate the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This
solemn commemoration will take place at the Armenian Youth Centre, 50
Hallcrown Place, North York (401 and Victoria Park).
The mass extermination of 1.5 million Armenians by the Young Turk government
of the Ottoman Empire during World War I has had a permanent impact on the
Armenian nation and continues to affect the psyches of the descendants of
its survivors in Canada today. On Thursday, April 19, 2006, Canada remained
true to its status as a global leader of human rights, when Prime Minister
Stephen Harper affirmed Canada’s stance, formally recognizing the first
genocide of the 20th century.
This year, to mark the 95th anniversary, we are pleased to announce the
participation of internationally-renowned Armenian musician Jivan Gasparyan
Jr., who will pay tribute to and honour the memory of our martyrs through
his performance. Mr. Robert Fisk, The Independent’s award-winning Middle
East correspondent, will be the keynote speaker.
We hope you will be able to join us as we reaffirm our obligation to
remember and learn from past crimes against humanity and remind Canadians
that it is only through our collective efforts that we can spare humanity
from the spectre of future genocides.
Yours very truly,
Mr. Vatche Kelebozian, President, Armenian Community Centre
Mr. Bedros Moushian, President, Nor Serount Cultural Association
Mr. Noubar Erganian, President, ADL Organization
