"Historical events should not be judged at political level, but should
be left to the parties concerned to discuss on the basis of current
research," said Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt after adoption
of Genocide Resolution in Riksdag.

"The Government worked actively to make this clear to the Riksdag
before the debate in the Chamber, as on previous occasions when the
issue has been raised," he added.

Bildt also noted that vote will not positively contribute to the
ongoing Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process and "in particular the
establishment of a commission charged with investigating the events
in 1915."

"This is a process that we have every reason to support as it will
also lead to increased stability and security in the region. Moreover,
the decision will not help the debate in Turkey, which has become
increasingly open and tolerant as Turkey has developed closer relations
with the European Union and made the democratic reforms these entail,"
Swedish Foreign Minister stated.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
