RESIDENT POPULATION OF ARMENIA GROWS BY 12.5 THOUSAND IN 2009

YEREVAN, MARCH 12, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia’s resident population made
3,250,500 as of 1 January 2010, growing by 12.5 thousand compared
to the index of the same period of the previous year, Head of the
RA National Statistical Service Stepan Mnatsakanian said during the
March 12 press conference.
According to him, in 2009 there was a 8% growth in the birth rate:
there were 44,466 births and the birth rate per 1,000 citizens made
13.7 ppm. The death rate remained at the 2008 level and made 8.5 ppm.
12 cases of maternal mortality were recorded in 2009 as compared to
16 cases in 2008.
There were 458 cases of infant mortality during the first year of an
infant’s life, while infant mortality index made 10.3 ppm compared
to 10.8 ppm in 2008. The number of marriages grew by 1.7% compared
to 2008 and amounted to 18,773, the number of divorces fell by 6.7%
and made 2,829.
S. Mnatsakanian said that in 2009 GDP amounted to .7 billion –
against .9 billion in 2008. The average level of unemployment made
6.9% in 2009 as compared to 6.3% in the previous year. By preliminary
data, the average monthly nominal salary made 101,895 drams in 2009,
increasing by 9.8% compared to 2008.
