PRESIDENT OF PACE: DECISIONS TAKEN ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE NOT TO HINDER EU-TURKEY NEGOTIATIONS

ArmInfo. The decisions taken on the Armenian Genocide will not hinder
the EU- Turkey negotiations and EU purposes, said President of PACE
Mevlut Cavusoglu during his visit to Kazakhstan, when replying to
Anadolu agency’s question about recognition of the Armenian Genocide
by Sweden and US House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

According to the source, Cavusoglu once again published his pro-Turkish
position, according to which "history should be left for historians,
and it is wrong that politicians take decisions on this topic,
and specialists should assess these events". The PACE president
does not share the opinion that the latest decision of the Swedish
parliament was taken under the influence of the decision taken by
the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and qualified this as a
domestic political issue. Touching upon inclusion of the issue of the
Armenian Genocide recognition in the agenda of the House of Commons
of the British Parliament, Cavusoglu as "a man knowing England"
supposes that no "undesirable decision" will be taken there.

To note, Turkish electronic mass media say that at tomorrow’s meeting
with his British counterpart Gordon Brown, Turkish Prime Minister
Erdogan will speak on the Armenian Genocide bill, which will be
discussed in the House of Commons in April, and warn Great Britain
about the possible consequences.
