FRENCH EMBASSY COMMENTS IN WAR REMARKS ROW

Karabakh mediator Bernard Fassier’s remarks to the NATO seminar in
Yerevan were made in French, the French embassy in Baku said today.
The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairman’s words were translated into several
languages, the embassy said in a statement.
‘Bernard Fassier officially dismissed the words, distorted by Armenian
and Azerbaijani journalists. He has provided the necessary explanations
to the governments of both countries which has satisfied them,’
the statement says.
The media reported Fassier as saying at the seminar on Friday that,
‘Azerbaijan’s victory in the event of renewed war is impossible,
because I know about the bravery of Armenian and Karabakh warriors.’
Political scientist Ilgar Mammadov confirmed that he had heard these
words used by the official English interpreter during the seminar.
