PATRIARCH KIRILL DECORATED WITH SUPREME AWARD OF ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH

Yerevan, March 18, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All
Russia was given a supreme award of the Armenian Apostolic Church,
an order of St. Gregory the Illuminator.

As Interfax-Religion correspondent has reported, the decoration
ceremony took place in the Cathedral of the Armenian Church in downtown
Yerevan where over three thousand believers came in the evening to
welcome Patriarch Kirill.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, members of the Cabinet and Yerevan
Mayor Office and more than 30 ambassadors of foreign states including
the Vatican’s representative to South Caucasus Nuncio Claudio Gugerotti
attended the ceremony.

People welcomed Primates of the two Churches applauding. While
Patriarch Kirill was going along the passage to the altar, many
believers asked for his blessing.

"We are grateful for fraternal support extended by the Russian Orthodox
Church to our people, for its efforts to condemn Armenian genocide,
for organizing Azerbaijan and Armenia meetings in order to justly and
peacefully settle the Nagorny Karabakh issue," the Catholicos of All
Armenians said.
