Armenia wants non-aggression pact with Azerbaijan
Mar 20, 2010 13:40 Moscow Time
Armenian President Serge Sargsyan urges Azerbaijan to sign a
non-aggression pact, which he believes would help restore trust
between the two neighboring states and underscore Azerbaijan’s desire
for a peaceful resolution of the long- running territorial dispute
over its breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh province. In an interview with
Euro News on Saturday, the Armenian leader said his country was
foursquare behind the internationally recognized principles of
self-determination, territorial integrity and non-use of force.
Armenia wants to end the conflict by restoring peace and stability to
the region. Nagorno-Karabakh is an Armenian-populated enclave, which
declared its independence from Azerbaijan in the immediate wake of the
1992 Soviet breakup. Russia is a major go-between in the international
efforts to resolve the conflict.
