Days of Francophonie in Armenia Launched
13:32 – 20.03.10
On March 19, Armenia officially launched the days of Francophonie at a
welcome ceremony at the RA Foreign Ministry attended by high-ranking
officials from various francophone countries. This year the days of
francophonie coincided with the 40th anniversary of the International
Organization of la Francophonie, according to a release issued by the
Foreign Ministry of Armenia.
RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at the ceremony that the
visit by the Secretary General of the International Organization of la
Francophonie Abdou Diouf to Yerevan in April will `open a new page’ of
negotiations in Armenia’s relations with the francophone community.
Saying that he assesses the cooperation and solidarity among the
organization’s member states positively, Nalbandian stressed that
Armenia is committed to the organization’s values and will endeavor in
making further efforts to actively participate in the organization’s
activities.
During the days of Francophonie, which last for a month, Armenia will
organize numerous events both in the capital city of Yerevan and in
the marzes (provinces). These celebrations will represent the cultural
diversity in music, literature, science, education and other spheres
of such countries as France, Belgium, Canada, Romania, Switzerland,
among other francophone states.
