Yerevan Water Company has sent a claim to the Public Services
Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Armenia proposing to review
the price of drinking water and raise it by 14%, the General Director
of the Company Pascal Royet said at a press conference today.
Royet mentioned that one of the reasons they decided to raise the price
was the economic crisis, due to which Armenian businesses consumed 17%
less water in 2009 than in 2008.
"I would not like the subscribers to bear this brunt again. Had the
state provided subsidies, the price of water would not rise," said he.
Royet, at the same time, hoped that the Commission will approve
their claim.
"I will fight for my benefit, so that I may be able to keep my
business," said Royet.
If the Commission approves the claim, from July 1, Yerevan Water will
raise the cost of water by 14% to 206 AMD per cubic meter.
