March and April are going to be crisis periods for Turkish-US
relations, said Turkish-Armenian Business Development Council co-chair
Kaan Soyak in an interview with Turkish news agency Anadolu Ajansi,
explaining that if Turkey had ratified the Armenia-Turkey Protocols,
it wouldn’t have any occasion to worry.
"Why are we facing the genocide resolutions? Because our parliament
has not yet ratified the Protocols. Should those documents have
been ratified, the genocide reolution would have not appeared on
the agenda of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the US Congress,
and we wouldn’t have to worry about what phrase [US President Barak]
Obama would use on April 24," said Soyak, adding that the reason the
Turkish parliament has not yet ratified the Protocols is that Ankara
backs Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
In his opinion, there will be no peace in the Caucasus until Russia
wants it so.
"Russia is not ready yet for the establishement of peace in the
Caucasus. In that sense, both Armenia and Azerbaijan are waiting
for Russia’s decision. This state of waiting has nothing to do with
Turkey. And it is not known when it [Russia] will make a decision. The
Turkish opposition is unaware of this situation, and the Turkish
people are being wrongly oriented," said Soyak.
