TASHORON CHURCH IN DINK’S BIRTHPLACE TO BE RESTORED

The restoration of Tashoron church, located in Cavusoglu, Province of
Malatya will be held as a result of Mosque Building and Preservation
Foundation appeal to Turkish Ministry of Culture.
Tashoron church is located in Cavusoglu neighborhood, the birthplace of
"Agos" daily Chief Editor Hrant Dink, assassinated near his Istanbul
office in 2007. He visited the 18th century church back in 2002 and
voiced the necessity of its restoration.
Mosque Foundations’ President Latif Yildirim informed that the decision
on was made last year and discussed also with Christian community of
Malatya, as all are eligible of performing their religious ceremonies,
Turkish Radikal informs.
Yildirim stated that the church, built under the reign of the Ottoman
Empire almost three centuries ago showed tolerant and libertarian
culture in that period. Back then people were living all together,
practicing their religious beliefs freely. This happens and should
happen today as well, he concluded.
