A meeting planned on March 27 between the Armenian National Congress
(ANC) central office and its regional office in Gyumri will not take
place, at least not for the moment. The reason is that the individuals
in charge of securing the two main halls in Gyumri where the meeting
would take place, "under pressure from the authorities, declined to
secure the halls without any serious reason," according to a release
issued by the ANC.

"The local ANC office in Gyumri strongly condemns the authorities’
disreputable and short-sighted policy of pressure and persecution.

Despite various fraudulent activities by the authorities, the ANC is
resolute and will fight till the victorious end," reads the release.

The meeting in Gyumri was set to discuss issues relating both
to foreign challenges and domestic socioeconomic issues caused
particularly by the recent increase in gas and petrol prices.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
