Demoyan forecasts further tensions by April 24

`The recognition of the Armenian Genocide by any state should first of
all come from the imperative of history and memory of this country.
The Armenian Genocide issue makes part of histories and memories of
lots of countries,’ the director of the Armenian Genocide
Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan told reporters today. There have been
Americans, Swedish and French who were witnesses of all these events.
Some Swedish missionary women, seeing the killings of Armenians, went
demented.

`Unfortunately, there is a world policy where not only this but many
other issues come as means to solve certain matters. It’s my
conviction that the Genocide issue should not be subject to political
manipulations,’ Demoyan said.

Demoyan forecasted further tensions by April 24, i.e. more states to
recognize the Armenian Genocide, and this will be related to Turkey’s
position over the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols.

Panorama.am recalls that Turkey has traditionally rejected the mass
killings of 1,5 million Armenians carried out early in the 20th
century and took the criticism of the West painfully. Despite this,
lots of states have recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide
carried out in the Ottoman Turkey: Uruguay (1965), Cyprus (1982),
Argentina (1993), Russian Federation (1995), Canada (1996), Greece
(1996), Lebanon (1997), Belgium (1998), Italy (2000), Vatican (2000),
France (2001), Switzerland (2003), Slovakia (2004), the Netherlands
(2004), Poland (2005), Germany (2005), Venezuela (2005), Lithuania
(2005), Chile (2007), Sweden (2010).
