TURKEY HAS BEEN PLACED IN THE POSITION OF A CHILD YEARNING FOR CANDY: BOZOYAN

Turkish society has been convinced that Armenia is ready for
concessions, political analyst Yervand Bozoyan told Tert.am.

"The expectation of those concessions resulted in Turkey stiffening
its stance," said Bozoyan, adding that Turkey hoped to put a halt
to the process of recognizing the Armenian Genocide through the
Armenia-Turkey Protocols.

"There’s also an expectation within their people. There were no such
expectations before. This is similar to that situation in which candy
is shown to a child but he or she is not allowed to taste it. If you
don’t give the candy to the child, he or she begins to want it. Turkey
has found itself in a similar situation: we showed it the candy and
now we say, ‘You know, we’re not going to give it to you.’ And they’re
saying: ‘What do you mean, the candy is ours.’ They consider the
genocide issue closed. And now when we refer to that issue, the Turks
see it as a way to exert pressure and they get angry," he explained.

According to Bozoyan, at this stage, it’s beneficial for Armenia that
the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement be rightfully halted temporarily. But
he does not see such a possibility today, as it will not be in the
interest of the world powers standing behind the process.

Bozoyan believes that it will raise serious discontent in the West,
should the Armenian side unilaterally declare that it’s stepping out
of the process. In his words, the US, Russia and European countries
are hinting at Armenia that, should it withdraw from the rapprochement
process, a war could begin in Nagorno-Karabakh.
