On April 7 morning, the demonstrators that organized a picket
near the Opera House on April 6, gathered in front of the Armenia
Marriott Hotel, demanding the immediate release of 14 political
prisoners. Some young activists were wearing prison garbs with chains
in their hands. Each picketer has the name of a political prisoner
on clothing. The protest action was organized on the occasion of the
37th conference of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH)
in Yerevan.

FIDH President Souhayr Belhassen and conference participants attended
the Opposition-held rally and demanded the release of all political
prisoners. The picketers thanked the participants in the conference
for their stance. No policeman tried to interfere with the action
either yesterday or today.

After the meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European
Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan came
out of the hotel and approached the demonstrators. Later Mr. Fule
came over to the demonstrators, asked few questions and left.

ANC Coordinator Levon Zurabyan attended the Ter-Petrosyan-Fule
meeting. According to him, the sides discussed all topical issues,
including Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, state of human rights and
political prisoners’ fate. The ANC presented its program of resolving
the political crisis, that was previously submitted to the CE.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
