YEREVAN, APRIL 7, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on
April 6 received President of the International Federation for Human
Rights (FIDH) Ms. Souhayr Belhassen who had arrived in Yerevan in
connection with the 37th forum of FIDH. Expressing a high opinion
about cooperation between Armenia and FIDH, the president welcomed
the decision to hold a forum of FIDH in Yerevan. He wished success
and efficient work to the forum participants, expressing a hope that
during the forum they would have an opportunity to become acquainted
with the history and traditions of Armenia.

The press service of the RA president reported that S. Sargsyan
said there are still numerous problems in the field of human rights
protection in Armenia, but obviously, it is impossible to solve all
these problems at once. "We apply the principle of comparison in
this issue: if there are more problems today than a few years ago, it
means that our activity is in need of revision. However, if progress
has been made, it means we make efforts in the right direction,"
the president noted.

S. Belhassen said that Armenia is in an advantageous position in the
region in terms of human rights protection, and today importance
is attached to the whole region through Armenia. She expressed a
hope that cooperation with Armenia would continue to develop through
improvement in the activities of Armenian institutions aimed at human
rights protection.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
