NATO PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF DEFENSE REFORMS IN ARMENIA

The head of the Armenian Mission to NATO Samvel Lazarian visited
the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).

Within the framework of the visit Samvel Lazarian had a meeting with
the Chief of Staff SHAPE is General Karl-Heinz Lather and Head of the
Military Cooperation Division, Brigadier General Frantisek Maleninsky.

During the meetings Samvel Lazarian presented the main directions
of Armenia-NATO cooperation and the perspectives of collaboration.

Reference was made to issues of the security atmosphere in the South
Caucasus.

The NATO officials appreciated Armenia’s contribution to the activity
of the Alliance, particularly its participation in the International
Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. They expressed
willingness to support the implementation of defense reforms in
Armenia.
