Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretary General of
the International Organization of Francophonie Abdou Diouf, who has
arrived to Armenia on official visit.
The President of Armenia stressed the importance of our country’s
cooperation with the International Organization of Francophonie and
noted that our country is faithful to the values of Francophonie, is
interested in their dissemination, and is ready to deepen cooperation
on different directions. "Armenians have been maintaining close
relations with France and French culture for centuries. Sometimes
relations were so close that it is hard to decide which culture
represent such names as Charles Aznavour, Michel Legrand, Anri
Vernoy, Alen Terzian, Garzu, Jansem. They are, certainly, brilliant
representatives of French culture but we consider them also an
indivisible part of Armenian culture," the President of Armenia
underscored and added, "Undoubtedly, the role of individuals is very
important, however the role of the Armenian communities of France
and francophone countries in strengthening relations is huge."
The Secretary General of the International Organization of
Francophonie Abdou Diouf expressed gratitude for warm welcome
and noted that relations with Armenia, which in 2008 acquired the
status of the associated member of the Organization, have developed
considerably. He praised efforts aimed at the promotion of French and
noted with satisfaction that Days of Francophonie have become a good
tradition in Armenia, and the greatest number of events dedicated to
Francophonie was organized in 2009.
The President of Armenia and the Secretary General of the International
Organization of Francophonie discussed possibilities of future
cooperation.
