WTO APPROVES ARMENIA’S FIRST REPORT ON REVIEW OF TRADE POLICY

The first sitting of the body on review of Armenia’s trade policy that
is implemented by the WTO Secretariat took place in the headquarters of
the World Trade Organization in Geneva on April 8, the press service
of the RA Ministry of Economy reported.

During the sitting, Head of the Armenian delegation and Deputy
Minister of Economy Mushegh Tumasyan answered a range of questions
by representatives of the WTO member-countries, as well as presented
reforms, initiatives and programs being implemented in the country
for the economy’s development during the post-crisis period.

As a result of discussions, the WTO member-countries approved Armenia’s
first report on review of trade policy that will be published in
English, French and Spanish languages.

The World Trade Organization is an international organization securing
legislative and institutional basis of the international trade
system, mechanisms of multilateral reconciliation and regulation of
member-countries policy for goods and services trade, regulation of
trade disputes and development of standard foreign trade documentation.

The WTO was established in 1995, based on Marrakesh agreement, which
was signed in Marrakesh, Morocco, in April 1994.

The WTO General Council approved Armenia’s application for joining
the WTO on December 10, 2002. Armenia officially became the 145th
member of the WTO on February 5, 2003.
