AZERBAIJANI FOREIGN MINISTER: AT WASHINGTON SUMMIT TURKEY WILL TRY TO ACHIEVE SOME PROGRESS IN KARABAKH SETTLEMENT

ArmInfo-TURAN. Ankara has not changed its positions on normalizations
relations with Armenia. Turkey still supports opening of frontiers
with Armenia only after liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories
occupied by Armenia, said Elmar Mamedyarov, Azerbaijan’s Foreign
Minister at the press-conference after the talks with the Commissar
of European Union (EU) on expansion of European neighborhood policy
Stephan Fule. Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Davudoglu and Recap
Tayyip Erdogan’s special envoy Firidun Sinirlioglu, who has visited
Baku today, confirmed that Ankara has not changed its position. During
the talks with Turkish diplomats Erdogan’s coming visit to Washington
in the frames of the summit on nuclear security on April 12-13 were
discussed.

Azerbaijan and Turkey hope on obtaining some progress in restoration
of stability and peace in the South Caucasus, in particular, the
adoption of renewed variant of "Madrid principles" and the work on
large agreement on settling the Karabakh conflict. Commissar of EU
supported efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts on settling the
Karabakh conflict, and is ready to help in realization of measures
for increasing mutual trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Erdogan’s
meetings with Armenia’s and U.S. Presidents are planned, and talks
in triple format are possible.
