The Iranian lawmaker Arsalan Fathipour called for the expansion of
ties between the Islamic Republic and its northern neighbor Armenia,
the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Wednesday.

Fathipour, who is also the head of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary
Friendship Group, said that the Iranian parliament supports development
of relations and mutual cooperation as well as promotion of ties
in different political, economic and cultural fields with Yerevan,
the report said.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Armenian ambassador to Tehran
Grigor Arakelian on Tuesday.

Araklian, for his part, expressed pleasure in the growing trend of
mutual cooperation between the two countries, and called for the
consolidation of economic exchanges in an effort to increase mutual
understanding and deepen all-out friendly relations, according to
the report.

He also laid emphasis on the importance of the development of
parliamentary relations between the two countries, and urged for an
increase in reciprocal visits by the two sides’ legislators, IRNA said.

In February, Islamic Republic announced that it plans to construct
an oil pipeline and terminal on its border with Armenia to increase
exports of oil products to the country, the English- language satellite
Press TV reported.

Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Noureddin Shahnazi-Zadeh said the two sides
agreed on a contract for a 350-km pipeline that carries oil products
to Armenia, the report said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
