Ali Hasanov Baku does not want to spoil relations with the USA,
so urges it to change its ‘biased policy’ on Karabakh, a senior
Azerbaijani official said today.
The head of the public policy department at the Azerbaijani
presidential administration, Ali Hasanov, told journalists: ‘We do not
want to spoil relations with the United States on other issues either,
we do not want to spoil partnership relations with this country.
However, conditions sometimes force us to do this.’
He said that public resentment in Azerbaijan at Washington’s policy
‘has had some influence on US centres of state policy planning’.
‘We believe they will be objective until the end of the Karabakh
conflict settlement process,’ Hasanov said.
‘We hope the United States will further preserve their sound,
partnership position on Azerbaijan and we will meet all obligations
related to their interests,’ the presidential administration official
said.
On 15 April Hasanov accused the United States of being more concerned
about improving Armenia’s economy than encouraging it to withdraw
its troops from Azerbaijan. He said the policy had disappointed the
Azerbaijani public and might cause Baku to review relations with
Washington in different areas.
