‘Tehran has voiced intention to mediate the Karabakh settlement’.
The replacement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries with
others is not effective for Azerbaijan especially now when the OSCE
Minsk Group has done so much in the Karabakh settlement, considers
political scientist Rasim Aghayev.
‘Azerbaijan is unable to regulate the Minsk Group unilaterally because
Armenia’s agreement is also required for this. On the other hand,
the OSCE that has been watching the activity of the Minsk Group for
long years and has not expressed its resentment over the results does
not agree either’, Aghayev said commenting on the opinion of some
representatives of the Azerbaijani political elite about the need to
replace the United States with Turkey within the OSCE Minsk Group.
The political scientist is also against Azerbaijan’s refusal of the
mediation efforts of the Minsk Group, with its replacement with Iran
as a mediator. As is known, Tehran has voiced intention to mediate
the Karabakh settlement.
‘Armenia does not want Tehran’s mediation. Thus, the replacement of
the Minsk Group with Iran will also be not productive’, Aghayev said.
