Carly Fiorina Calls on Congress to Pass Armenian Genocide Resolution
SACRAMENTO, CA – In commemoration of the 95th anniversary of Armenian
Genocide Remembrance Day, U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today
called on Congress and President Obama to recognize the Armenian
Genocide and pass the Armenian Genocide Resolution.
"There are periods in our history that are dark and horrible. They
reveal the evil that exists in our world and underscore the atrocities
that humankind is capable of committing.
"Today, as we remember the beginning of the mass deportations into an
unforgiving desert, slaughter and genocide of more than 1 million
innocent Armenians, let us also pledge never to forget the victims of
these acts of violence and murder. It is our duty to acknowledge the
contemptible, premeditated crimes and horrible acts of genocide that
were committed by the Ottoman Turks when they drove Armenians from
their ancestral homeland during this dark period of human history. At
the same time, let us also shine a light on the hatred, evil and
intolerance that continue to live on in our world today.
"In that spirit, I today call on Congress and President Obama to join
me in recognizing the Armenian Genocide and to act swiftly in passing
the Armenian Genocide Resolution."
House Resolution 252 was introduced by Congressman Adam Schiff on
March 17, 2009. The resolution calls on the president to ensure that
the United States’ foreign policy "reflects appropriate understanding
and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic
cleansing and genocide documented in the United States record relating
to the Armenian Genocide." H. Res. 252 passed the U.S. House Committee
on Foreign Affairs on March 4 by a vote of 23 to 22.
