CONSTITUTIONAL COURT DISMISSED PASHINYAN’S CLAIM

At a court session today Constitutional Court of the Republic
of Armenia left a January 14, 2010 ruling (17-A) by the election
commission of the constituency #10 unchanged, the court’s press office
told Tert.am
The commission’s ruling refers to a voting for a parliamentary seat
that saw National Unity MP Ara Simonyan win over Nikol Pashinyan –
the former Chief-Editor of the local Armenian daily Haykakan Jamanak
(Armenian Times), currently jailed.
The appeal was brought to the Constitutional Court by Nikol Pashinyan
who demanded to annul the results of the January 10, 2010 vote,
claiming it was rigged.
Ironically, neither Nikol Pashinyan nor his lawyers were present at
the court of law while the Constitutional Court held today’s hearing
to deliver this unpopular ruling.
