Kourtney Kardashian’s birthday was on April 18, but the real
celebration happens this weekend. Younger sisters Kim and Khloe
Kardashian are hosting a party for the 31-year-old reality star.
Coincidentally, the party takes place on a somber day in the Armenia
culture.
As reported here earlier this month, Kim created a lot of controversy
when she posted an apology about the poor timing of her older
sister’s party on her website. Kim preemptively announced the upcoming
celebration and defended her actions. A number of readers commented
on the article, debating Kim’s sincerity and judging her intentions.
As the date of the Armenian Genocide approaches, Khloe carefully
promoted the same party on her website yesterday. "This Saturday Kim
and I are hosting a birthday bash for Kourt in Vegas at Wet Republic.
We could not be more excited but we also cannot forget that this falls
on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. I don’t want people to
think that because we are celebrating my dear big sister’s birthday
that we are neglecting to remember and honor those whose lives were
lost. It was always very important to our father to teach us about
our heritage and our culture and we have continued to carry on that
legacy. So at Kourtney’s birthday, we will be toasting to the future
and honoring the past."
The Kardashian girls have spoken with pride about their Armenian
heritage. They have even incorporated the culture into a new jewelry
line. The young women partnered with Virgin Saints and Angels to
design a romantic and edgy line that celebrates the Armenian heritage.
In a recent interview with the Armenian Pulse, Kim talked about
the influence of the Armenian culture on her lifestyle. "My great
Grandparents from my fathers side came to LA from Armenia right
before the Genocide. My great Grandfather was Armenian and my great
Grandmother Turkish-Armenian. My mother is English, so I am half
Armenian, but, I was raised with a huge Armenian influence, always
hearing stories of Armenia, eating Armenian food and celebrating
Armenian holidays!"
