ArmInfo. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia has
submitted a package of amendments to the Labor Code. In particular,
the ministry offers including the children below 14 years in the
legal definition of employee stipulated by Article 17 of the Labor
Code with severe restriction of occupation and sectors. In particular,
cinematography, sport, involvement in theatrical, concert and circus
teams, as well as creation or performance of art works on Television
and Radio. Involvement in the above types of professional experience
is not allowed without consent of one of the parents, adoptive person
or guardian and it must not hamper education, damage health or threaten
to security and moral education of children.
First Deputy Minister of Labor Araik Petrosyan says presenting the
package to the parliamentarians that earlier children below 14 years
were engaged in the above professional experience despite the ban
stipulated by the effective labor legislation. "They were provided
with salary, social payments were made for them, but no pensions
were calculated. We offer to take under strict control professional
experience of the children under 14 years. We introduce compulsory
consent of a parent or guardian for that purpose," Petrosyan says. A
temporary labor contract will be made with the children below 16
years. Another amendment says that citizens under 18 years cannot be
involved in professional activity on holidays and off-hours except
sport and cultural events.
