Garegin ll Armenian Catholicos said when young he served at the
Armenian church in Baku and he had many good memories about the city.

Armenian Catholicos Garegin ll shared his impressions within the
framework of his visit to Baku and participation in the interreligious
summit, said chairman of the State Committee for work with Religious
Organizations Idayat Orujev.

Orujev said the fact of Garegin’s visit to Baku is already a
positive result and it can be favorable for the Karabakh conflict
settlement"."During the meeting with Armenian Catholicos I said that
the civilized world treats negatively the termination of memorials
of history, culture and religion and that there is not a single
Azerbaijani-Turkish monument which has not been been destroyed in
Armenia and the occupied Azerbaijani lands. I recalled the Armenian
church in Baku, where religious service can be held. This is a proof
of tolerance and humanism of the Azerbaijani people who managed to
preserve this church even in the most difficult moments", Orujev said.

"Garegin ll noted that the mosque in Yerevan has been restored though
adding that it is functioning for the Muslims who reside temporarily
or arrive in Armenia from Iran. The Armenian Catholicos said when
young he served at the Armenian church in Baku and he had many good
memories about the city. He said the Azerbaijani capital has grown
and changed which has made a great impression on him", Orujev said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
