ArmInfo. Naxivan de-facto belongs to Turkey long ago but de-jure
it belongs to Azerbaijan, political expert Artak Shakaryan told
journalists today.
‘Over the last 10 years Naxivan has become an economical appendix
of Turkey. In the economical, transport and communication sense this
region depends on Turkey by 90%. For this reason, though by word of
mouth Azerbaijan trusts in Ankara, certainly they understand in Baku
that Naxivan is gradually becoming the Turkish territory’, – he said
and added that according to international treaties, which fixed this
territory as belonging to Azerbaijan but under protectorship of Turkey,
Azerbaijan does not have a right to give this territory to the third
country, including Turkey. The similar situation is in Ajaria which
is also under the Turkish protectorship. ‘Just this was the reason why
Russia did not manage to bring its troops in Ajaria during the crisis
of Aslan Abashidze tenure. ‘Just the same way Armenia made no shot
towards Naxivan, though it was easier to return this territory than in
case of Nagornyy Karabakh. All this is evidence of many facts including
further plans of Ankara in this direction’, – Shakaryan concluded.
