Yerevan (Yerkir) – Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is
will visit Azerbaijan in May to sign an intergovernmental contract
on gas supplies.

Turkish newspaper Sabah reported today that the new agreements would
be signed by Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The two sides had been negotiating the new agreements since the
autumn. Last week Baku and Ankara agreed on the price of gas, Turkish
Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said.

No official announcements of the new price have been made, but Turkish
media report that Turkey will now pay Azerbaijan $220 per 1,000 cubic
metres of gas. Turkey is also to pay $1bn in compensation for gas
supplied since 2008, Haberturk newspaper reported.

Turkey used to pay $120 per cubic metre of Azerbaijani gas, while
average world gas prices are around $400.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
