YEREVAN, MAY 6, ARMENPRESS: On the decree of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov,
an Armenian church will be put up in Moscow on commemoration of the
Armenians participated in the Great Patriotic War.

Head of the construction works, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor
Hrant Poghosyan told Armenpress that the church will be single-dome,
with a surface of 225 square meters and 28 m height. He also said that
Moscow already has Russian, Jewish and Azerbaijani religious monuments
dedicated to the victims of the World War II. "The Armenian church
is being constructed next to the Russian one," H. Poghosyan said.

On his initiative a museum presenting the participation of Armenians
in the Great Patriotic War will open in the ground floor of the
church, where books, personal items, photos, etc will be kept and
presented. According to H. Poghosyan, there are already numerous
valuable exemplars, but the compiling process is continued. "Each
time Russians, Armenians or foreigners come across the commemoration
board placed next to the church, they get surprised at the enormous
number of the Armenians participated in the war," H. Poghosyan said.

The distinguished scientist said he is of the opinion that today
besides the names of our marshals, the former soviet nations do not
have an integral idea about the participation of Armenians in the
war," he noted adding that this church which is designed by Armenian
architectural traditions will newly appraise the heroic past and
courageous spirit of our people.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
