U.S. Congressman Adam Schiff’s appeal to Armenian survivors of the
Genocide for providing their accounts for U.S.
Congress reports, will not produce any results, stated Turkish
Ambassador to U.S. Namik Tan.
He stressed Turkey will give an adequate response to the initiative
taken by the Congressman and Armenians, reported TRT. Ambassador Tan
said that the critical period has passed – he meant April 24.
According to him, U.S. President Barack Obama did not utter the
word "genocide" during his annual address on April 24, which fact is
considered a defeat by Armenians. So they are trying to exert pressure
by means of such initiatives.
Adam Schiff proposed including the Armenian survivors’ accounts in the
U.S. Congress records. As long as the survivors are alive, the first
Genocide of the 20th century can be officially recorded by the U.S.
Congress he said. The record can prove be important for historians
and archives, as well as part of efforts to convince the U.S. Congress
to pass an Armenian Genocide resolution.
