Founder and director of Naregatsi art center Narek Harutyunyan said
that Europe was fascinated by Armenian national music.

>>From April 22 to May 6, Naregatsi Armenian national ensemble played
concerts in ten cities of Switzerland and France.

"National music is one of the mechanisms to maintain traditions and
national identity. Our program included ashugh and religious music.

The concerts dated to the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide
were attended not only by representatives of Armenian communities but
also by local residents, who were really enchanted," Mr. Harutyunyan
said.

"We gave a charity concert in Paris, with proceeds to be spent on
treatment of 10-year-old Alex Chulfakian, who was severely injured
in an accident. All concerts were covered by the press, which was
very encouraging," he said.

Creative director of the ensemble Hovik Sahakyan said, for his part,
that concerts in the U.S. are also planned.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
