ACBA-CREDIT AGRICOLE BANK AND HSBC BANK ARMENIA ENSURE HIGHEST NET PROFIT Q1 2010 IN BANKING SECTOR OF ARMENIA

ArmInfo. ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank and HSBC Bank Armenia ensured the
highest net profit Q1 2010 in the banking sector of Armenia : 981.1mn
AMD ($2.4mn) and 934.5mn AND ($2.3mn) respectively. Ardshininvestbank
ranks the third by net profits for Q1 2010 with 733.3mn AMD ($1.8mn),
VTB Bank (Armenia) is the fourth with 669.6mn AMD and Converse Bank
is the fifth with 624.3mn AMD net profit.
Ranking of Armenian Commercial Banks prepared by Agency of Rating
Marketing Information (ArmInfo) says BTA Bank is the leader by ROA
– 1.51%, the Armenian Development Bank ranks the second – 1.16%,
ArmSwissbank is the third – 1.14%, INECOBANK is the 4th – 0.96%
and Converse Bank is the 5th – 0.78%. HSBC Bank Armenia is in the
lead by ROE – 5.34%, and then goes Converse Bank – 5.04%. INECOBANK
is the third – 4.57%, Armenian Development Bank (ADB) is the 4th –
4.21% and Artsakhbank is the 5th – 4.11%.
Net profit of the banking system of Armenia for Q1 2010 totaled 6.8bn
drams ($16.9mn) growing almost 6 times per year. Out of 22 commercial
banks 22 ensured a total of 7.3bn drams profit for Q1 2010, whereas
the other two suffered a total of 0.5bn drams loss.
Total capital of the banking system for Q1 2010 grew 3.4% and 21.4%
per year to 295.9bn drams ($738.8mn) as of March 31. This indicator
grew due to the profits growth and partially due to replenishment of
the statutory capital (of Unibank and Mellat Bank for the period under
review). Ameriabank had been in the lead by the statutory capital
since Q4 2009 – 18.2bn drams (no changed per year). The merger with
Cascade Bank will maintain the leading position of Ameriabank by the
statutory capital. Ardshinivestbank ranks the second with 15.5bn drams
statutory capital (no changes per year), ACBA CreditAgricole Bank ranks
the third with 14.6mn drams (no changes per year). Top five banks by
total capital as of March 31 2010 are ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank –
36.2bn drams (up 33.5% per year), Ardshininvestbank – 27.3bn drams
(up 2.6% per year), VTB-Armenia – 25.8bn drams (up 8% per year),
Ameriabank – 22.3bn drams (up 8.7% per year) and HSBC Bank Armenia
17.9bn drams (up 8.2% per year).
Assets of the banking system for Q1 2010 were up 4.5% and 24.2% per
year to 1.4 trillion drams ($3.5bn) thanks to the growing provision
of crediting. Top five banks by assets are ACBA-Credit Agricole
Bank – 174.4bn drams (up 24% per year), HSBC Bank Armenia – 138.8bn
drams (up 8.2% per year), VTB- Armenia – 125.6bn drams (up 18.6%
per year), Ardshininvestbank – 118.1bn drams (down 2.4% per year)
and Armbusinessbank – 115.8bn drams (up almost 3 times per year).
