ArmInfo. Taking into account the fact that Armenia is a strategic
partner of Russia, the latter will not take steps conflicting with
the interests of Armenians, Head of the Political Studies Department
at the Yerevan State University, Professor Garik Keryan told media
on May 12 when commenting on the official visit of Russia’s President
Dmitry Medvedev to Turkey.
"Moreover, the Russian military base is in the territory of Armenia,
that is quite essential. Therefore, Armenia may even benefit from
the process of possible Russian-Turkish rapprochement, as it will get
additional security guarantees in this case. This is substantiated by
the fact that Russia, being Armenia’s ally, intends to cooperate with
a country which tramples the interests of our republic", the political
expert said. At the same time, he said, Armenia may nevertheless bear
some losses from this process, as Turkey may groundlessly demand
settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict from Moscow in favour
of Azerbaijan.
