CONTEST OF CONSTRUCTION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE MONUMENT DECLARED IN SWITZERLAND

GENEVA

GENEVA, MAY 14, ARMENPRESS: The Canton government of Geneva has
declared a contest of construction of a museum dedicated to the
Armenian Genocide. The contest intends 100 thousand Swiss Franks.

Armenpress reports citing the Turkish DHA agency that 6 sculptors
invited from different parts of the world will take part in the
contest together with the Swiss-Armenians.

An announcements spread by the government states that 3 sites are
offered for placing the monument in the center of Geneva – "Sguare
Chantepoulet", "Le Sguare Pradier", "L’esplanade Theodore-de-Beze".

The Armenian organizations operating in Switzerland have stated
that they will have an additional participation of 400 thousand
Swiss Franks.

Canton government of Geneva has recognized the Armenian Genocide on
June 25, 1 998, but it has not been made public under the pressure
of Turkey,

After the 2001 elections of mayor the first deed of the government was
the ratification of the decision on the genocide and making it public.

In the government which made public the December 10 decision of the
same year there were 2 representatives of the Socialistic Party,
2 of Christian-Democratic Party, 2 of Liberal Party and 1 of the
Green Party.

The decision on placing a monument dedicated to the Armenian in the
center of Geneva has been adopted by the government on May 26, 2008.
