ANC Glendale, ABA, and NLS Launch Free Legal Clinics

Glendale, CA – The Armenian National Committee of Glendale in partnership
with the Armenian Bar Association and Neighborhood Legal Services of LA
County will offer a free legal clinic, conducted in both Armenian and
English, for Glendale residents on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 from 6:00pm to
8:00 p.m. at K&M Karamanoukian, Glendale Youth Center, 211 W. Chestnut St.,
Glendale, CA.

"We’re pleased to partner with two very reputable organizations that have
for years provided legal services to the community," stated Sarkis
Ourfalian, Co-Chair of ANC Glendale "We hope to make the June 2nd clinic,
the first of many in order to provide continuous services and assistance to
the Glendale community," added Ourfalian.

Volunteer attorneys from the Armenian Bar Association and Neighborhood Legal
Services will provide free legal advice and guidance on questions dealing
with landlord-tenant relations, civil matters/small claims, immigration,
criminal law, and family law (domestic violence, divorce, custody issues).
Clinics are limited to advice and consultation only. Attendees who wish to
hire an attorney will be referred to the Glendale Bar Association or NLS for
continued assistance. Volunteer attorneys will not represent clients in
court and will not be available for hire.

"The Armenian Bar Association is proud of the alliance we have formed with
the Armenian National Committee and Neighborhood Legal Services in
participating in this free legal clinic," said Vicken Simonian, past
Chairman of the Armenian Bar. "One of our primary goals is to educate the
Armenian community on matters of legal significance, and to provide pro bono
advice to needy members of the public. To help us accomplish that goal, we
have experienced attorneys who will volunteer their time to participate in
the clinic," added Simonian

"One of Neighborhood Legal Services’ priorities is to improve and increase
access to free legal services for low income people. We are thrilled to
have the opportunity to partner with the Glendale and Armenian Bar
Association to initiate the Glendale Free Legal Clinic. This Clinic will
help ensure that all Glendale residents have access to the justice system,"
stated Neal S. Dudovitz, Executive Director of NLS.

Attendees are encouraged to bring to the clinic documentation pertaining to
their legal issues such as agreements or contracts (signed or proposed),
written rules or policies, court orders, court papers served or that were
filed with the court, all letters or emails to and from the person or
business with whom the attendee has a disagreement, specific paperwork
related to the case (rental agreement, lease, child support order, employee
handbook, etc.).

Although walk-ins are welcome, community members interested in attending the
clinic can schedule an appointment by emailing

info@ancglendale. org or calling 818.243.3444. Attendees will be served on a
first come, first served basis.

The Armenian National Committee-Glendale Chapter advocates for the social,
economic, cultural, and political rights of the city’s Armenian American
community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and
public policy levels.
