In Memoriam: Archbishop Dirair Mardikian

His Eminence Archbishop Dirair Mardikian, Primate of the Armenian
Dioceses of Romania and Bulgaria, entered into his eternal rest on May
11, 2010. He was one of the senior members of the Brotherhood of Holy
Etchmiadzin and a devoted servant of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He
was 80 years old.
Archbishop Dirair was born May 24, 1930 in Beirut, Lebanon
where he received his advanced education in the Sahakian and Apkarian
Colleges in Beirut. He attended the Theological Seminary of the
Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Gevorkian Seminary at the
Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. In 1960 he was elected to serve as the
Primate of the Armenian Dioceses of Romania and Bulgaria, where he
continued to serve up to his death.

In Memoriam: Elizabeth Hovnanian
Elizabeth (Lili) Hovnanian died on Friday, May 14. She was 87 years
old. Mrs. Hovnanian was the wife of the late Jirair S. Hovnanian. Both
were devoted members of the St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in
Philadelphia, where Mr. Hovnanian served as a deacon. They were
long-time supporters of the Prelacy and were Pillars of the Prelacy.
The Prelate, Archbishop Oshagan, will officiate at the
funeral service tomorrow, Tuesday, May 18. at St. Gregory the
Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church, 8701 Ridge Avenue,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The family will receive visitors at the
church from 9:30 to 11 am; funeral services will begin at 11
am. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, New
Jersey.
Survivors include her sons and their wives, Stephen and
Nancy Hovnanian and Peter and Theresa Hovnanian; nine grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Samuel, Manuel,
Joseph, and Peter Vosbikian. Two sisters Sarah Hovsepian and Virginia
DerHagopian, pre-deceased her.
