STRAND PICKS UP BEN FOSTER DRAMA ‘HERE’

The film chronicles a brief but intense romantic relationship between
an American satellite-mapping engineer and an expatriate Armenian
photographer on an impromptu road trip.

shareComments Strand Releasing has picked up U.S. rights to the drama
Here, starring Ben Foster and Lubna Azabal.

Written by Dani Valent and Braden King, who also directed, the
film chronicles a brief but intense romantic relationship between
an American satellite-mapping engineer and an expatriate Armenian
photographer on an impromptu road trip. The indie film had its world
premiere in competition at the Sundance Film Festival in January and
won the CICAE Award at the Berlin fest the following month.

Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen produced the film, which is the first
American feature produced in Armenia.

K5 International and Kevin Iwashina and Christine D’Souza of Preferred
Media negotiated the deal with Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans of Strand. K5
is selling international rights to the film at the Marche de Cannes.

“Strand is the perfect home for the film in the U.S.,” said K5’s Carl
Clifton. “They are passionate and sophisticated distributors who have
totally embraced the unique cinematic experience that Here delivers.”

K5 also is repping Vehicle 19, Voice From the Stone, Liberty Lane
and Toast in the market.

Strand most recently released the 2010 Palme d’Or winner, Uncle
Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. The company has The Sleeping
Beauty, Tyrannosaur and Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff
forthcoming.
