The Armenian pavilion achieved unprecedented attention at the “Art
by Genève” International Contemporary Art Fair, which was held from
April 29 to May 3 in Geneva.
Sona Harutyunyan, head of the RA Culture Ministry contemporary art
department, said today at a news conference that Narek Avetisyan’s
“Simulacrum” project, presented in the pavilion, was the focus of
attention of European art lovers.
“The participation in the fair was an unprecedented phenomenon for
Armenia, as at last Armenia was given an opportunity to present its
contemporary art,” Sona Harutyunyan said. She added that RA President
Serzh Sargsyan, RA Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Culture and Diaspora,
a number of NA deputies visited the pavilion. RA Ambassador to
Switzerland, world-known singer Charles Aznavour visited the pavilion
two times.
Narek Avetisyan’s “Simulacrum” project features 33 variations
on the theme of Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring”,
some animation, computer effects and music, written specially for
the project.
