Remarkable findings of Armenian archeologist in Luxor

June 04, 2011 | 20:20

ICOMOS-Armenia Cairo based member, archaeologist and Egyptologist
Hourig Sourouzian reported new details about excavations in a burial
temple of 18th Dynasty Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1390-1352 BC).

The expedition discovered alabaster colossus of the pharaoh near third
supporting pillar of the temple in Kom el-Hettan, in western part of
Luxor reports IKOMOS-Armenia.

`The monument must be the northern pair of Colossi of Momnon. It is
likely that the two statues collapsed during an earthquake, but their
parts were preserved under Nile alluvium layers. The statue will be
installed in its original location in nearest future,’ said Zahi
Hawass, Egyptian Minister of State for Antiquities.
