YEREVAN. June 17. /ARKA/. The majority of confectionery imported to
Armenia are overdue or low quality, said the Chairman of National
Association of Consumers’ Rights Protection Melita Hakobyan in the
press-conference on Friday.

“If we pay attention to expiration dates of local products, they vary
between seven-ten days and the imported sweets – up to half a year.

The more is the expiration date of the product, the lower are natural
ingredients in it which means it is low quality”, she said.

About 80% of the sold confectionary are local products. It evidences
that the consumers believe in better quality of local products. She
didn’t mention any certain facts.

The risk of falsification of expiration dates is also high as currently
they are done on such a level that it is difficult to differ Italian
sweets from false ones.

Speaking about meat and milk products, Hakobyan called the consumers
for giving preference to local products. “Now 96-97% of milk products
and 75-80% of meat products in the Armenian market are of local
production:, she said.
