Israel’s Knesset delayed discussion of a bill on Armenian Genocide
recognition for a week, responsible for Jerusalem commission of ARF
Hay Dat Hagop Sevan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
Knesset approved session agenda on Tuesday and will discuss the bill
on June 29. Hagop Sevan also noted that Armenian community in Israel
has great hopes for the discussion of another bill on Armenian Genocide
Commemoration Day. The author of the bill is Arieh Eldad.
However, it will be logical that the Knesset first recognize Armenian
Genocide and then commemorate it.
“We work parallel on both bills and do everything to keep the Armenian
Genocide issue in the parliament agenda and emphasize necessity of
its recognition,” Sevan said.
Earlier Meretz left party member Zehava Gal-On, presenting Armenian
Genocide recognition issue to the Committee on Education, Culture and
Sports of the Knesset, told Armenian News-News.am that recognition
of Armenian Genocide is Israel’s obligation.
