The December 21 amnesty law adopted by Georgia’s parliament spreads
on leader of United Javakhq Vahagn Chakhalyan.
Chakhalyan will be set free after the law enters into force, his
attorney Nino Adriashvili told Armenia’s Hetq.am.
“The articles under which Vahagn is charged with are not considered
grave crime. He will be set free after Saakashvili signs it into law.
Afterwards, the name of those who will be set free will be published.
In future two weeks Vahagn’s case will be transferred to court and
a decision on setting him free will be made. It will last one or two
months, after it he will be set free,” the attorney said.
Chakhalyan has been arrested from July 21 to 2008 and has served more
than ¼ of his term.
He was charged with illegal arms possession and organization of mass
events violating the public order. He has been sentenced to ten years
in prison.
