No disagreements between opposition, civil society

Human rights activist Artak Zeinalyan does not see any disagreements
between the Opposition and civil society.

“Nothing bad if the political opposition attempts to get dividends
from civil initiatives’ actions or vice versa, nothing bad about it,”
Mr Zeinalyan told Tert.am.

Armenia’s civil society would have succeeded greatly but for the
authorities’ resistance.

“The more active is political opposition the greater are civil
movements’ achievements. If there is no political opposition, it
happens like in Azerbaijan: the political opposition has been done
away with, and human rights activities and journalists have turned
into targets,” he said.

Speaking of a number of protests, Mr Zeinalyan said:

“They were spontaneous actions resulting from civil society’s demands.
We have no efficient election mechanisms and authorities are
independent of election results nor are they serving the people for
their accountability to produce good results.”

According to him, protests achieved their aims.
