YEREVAN. – Europe hopes that Armenia will clarify its position and
the boundaries of its cooperation with the European Union (EU).
Polish Ambassador Jerzy Marek Nowakowski noted the abovementioned at
a press conference on Wednesday, as he reflected on the EU Eastern
Partnership summit to be convened in May in Riga, the capital city
of Latvia.
The diplomat stressed that he is confident in Armenia’s capabilities
in addressing its challenges of human rights and democracy.
In his words, the respective negotiations should be closely monitored,
and it should be understood that Armenia’s potential joining the
Eastern Partnership program concerns the political part, and therefore
it cannot apply to the economic part.
“[But] this is the decision of the authorities and people of Armenia,
[and] whatever it may be, we [, Europe,] will accept and support it,”
Nowakowski noted.
He added that the EU association will enable Armenia to develop
in political and several other domains. And Poland, for its part,
stands ready to share its track-record with Armenia in terms of the
development of relations with the European Union.
